My photograph captures my sister "levitating", which alludes to movement, whilst being a still image. Since levitating is not a possible movement my work also emphasizes the uncanny.
The idea for this image was inspired by Sam Taylor Johnson's works (specifically her series of "Self portrait suspended" photographs) as well as levitation photography as a popular style.
My work follows the ideas of a tableau discussed in Chapter 2 of "The Photograph as Contemporary Art". It appears as though a narrative is taking place in my image, but that narrative is vague, uncertain or even "loaded" if the viewer chooses. My intention was to keep the image narrative uncertain and open to interpretation.
